Matekino comes from Waikaretu, a village in the Waikato rich in farming culture. He has strong links to his identity through his culture and is a strong advocate for the three principles of the Treaty of Waitangi: Partnership, Protection and Participation. He has significant experience in community development mahi and believes it is important as his accountability lies with his whānau, hapu and iwi.
Matekino has a passion for young people and whānau and has an in-depth understanding of governance and the youth development sector.
