YHP is a weekly (3-days p/wk) programme that focusses on providing free and accessible opportunities to rangatahi in health and fitness. YHP is coordinated and facilitated by two Maori and Pacific wahine who are also qualified Personal Trainers. YHP currently operates out of a community space in the Poneke Hub in Kilbirnie, Wellington.
This year for Youth Week, we are proposing to offer mentorship for 3 to 4 Rangatahi (14 – 21 years old) who are current participants of YHP and have an interest in the Health and Fitness sector. Our YHP coordinators will work alongside these Rangatahi to plan and deliver a specific fitness workout session for the different classes during Youth Week (Mon 15, Weds 17, Fri 19 May). Each class ranges from 10 to 12 attendees with 90% of them identifying as female.
The key outcome for this Youth Week event is to provide an opportunity to upskill and support these Rangatahi towards understanding the health and fitness sector as well as building their confidence in the mana and matauranga they hold. The following are some areas of success in which we will support these Rangatahi with; facilitation, health and safety, communication, leadership, organisation and planning, performance review and confidence building.
