Every year Paraparaumu College dedicates Youth Week to the Youth Week theme and how it can be used to inspire, support and show special appreciation for the students at our school. We usually have a different activity running on each day of the week that is centred around the theme and gets students involved. This year with the theme "Rangatira mo apopo? Rangatira i tenei ra! / Leaders of tomorrow? Leaders for today!" We plan to host activities that encourage students to reflect on the things they wish to achieve and encourage them to pursue their passions. Some of the activities we plan to do are a free breakfast with young guest speakers from the area that have achieved great things since they left college, a fun lunchtime in partnership with Kapiti Youth Support with free sausage sizzle/live music/karaoke, a poster board activity where students can write a message about a dream they have or someone that is inspiring to them and possibly a dunk tank on the Friday that students can dunk student leaders/staff in to build a greater connection between students and the leaders of the school. If this isn't possible we will host a friendly sports game between students and staff. This will likely either be football, multisport or bubble soccer. Our aim is to create an environment in which students can reflect on their passions and encourage them to believe they are more than capable of achieving the things they want to. We also plan to host a school-wide kahoot about inspirational young leaders with prizes.
