We would like to hold a workshops & leadership development opportunities with the rangatahi of our Rugby League Club from our International Grades which includes ages 12 – 18. This will include both boys and girls grades, our club has a 99% Māori and Pacific membership. The kaupapa will have two main activities:
1. Knowing self – education around their connection and history of Manurewa so they are better connected to the jersey, club and Manurewa Community to build a strong self identity and matauranga around Manurewa from a Iwi, Taiao and local community perspective. Outcomes would to build on their own matauranga of Manurewa, improve confidence and self identity, loyalty to the club and participation within sport. Improve pride and connection. Activities will include access to maunga, walking and connection to moana, taonga taakaro activities based at Manurewa Marae & kai.
2. Develop leadership by identifying leadership roles and opportunities connected to the club such as assisting with Coaching of Jnr Teams u6 – u12 guided by existing Team Management, lead roles within our Social Marketing platforms, lead roles within the learning and running of our Merchandise Shop, attend & interact at Committee Meetings, design and plan an event for Jnr Club Members, Community Outreach – other 'service' activities that they can give back to the Manurewa Community. Outcomes are providing forums where they can exercise leadership, build knowledge, provide input and guidance, planning, event management, be empowered to give back to others.
