EVENT

ĀKINA

In support of Youth Week 2023, we will be hosting an event that will take place on Friday, May 19, at Te Papanui Enderley Community Centre. The aim of this event is to provide an opportunity for young people to come together and engage in various activities that will actively demonstrate how they are able to shape tomorrow by being leaders today.

The theme for Youth Week 2023 is “Rangatira mō āpōpō? Rangatira mō tēnei rā!” which signifies that taiohi are not waiting for the future to become leaders, instead they are embracing their roles as leaders today. We’ve decided to reinforce this statement by naming our event “Ākina” symbolising the act of inspiring and motivating others to embrace their leadership roles in the here and now.

The event will feature several exciting activities and attractions that are sure to appeal to youth, including barbering, hairstyling, and multisport activities. To keep up with current trends we have invited local TikTok influencers and will also have players from the Black Ferns attend the event as well.

Through engaging workshops, thought-provoking discussions, and sharing space with successful role models, our event aims to instill the values of leadership, resilience, and innovation in young minds. We strive to provide a platform where they can develop essential skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. By nurturing their talents and nurturing their passions, we aim to unleash their full potential and prepare them to navigate the challenges and complexities of the future.
