Youth Week is all about celebrating young people – your voices, talents, and the amazingness you bring to your whānau, your friends an your communities.   

This year’s theme is Whai Wāitanga – Take our Place. This is all about belonging to spaces and communities, encouraging young people to speak up and own who they are, reaching for your dreams and standing proudly where you are now.  

It’s an invitation: not just to dream, but to act! 

Run a Social Media Takeover 📱 

  • Take part in the Youth Week – Ball in Your Court social media campaign. Catch the ball, tell us about yourself and the place you stand it, pass the ball and the wero on to 3 of your friends! Don’t forget to use #youthweeknz25 
  • Take over your school, organization, or community group’s Instagram/TikTok to showcase what young people are up to. 
  • Highlight the mahi of youth in your community or share inspiring stories 

Host or Attend a Youth-Led Event 💃

  • Organize a gig, open mic night, art showcase, or dance battle. 
  • Get involved in events run by local youth councils, community centers, or schools. Check out of calendar of events.  

Use Your Voice 💬 

  • Speak out on issues that matter to you – start a campaign, write a blog or op-ed, or post on social media. 
  • Join a youth panel or attend a hui where young people are leading the kōrero. 

Express Yourself Creatively  🎨 

  • Create a zine, music, artwork, or short film focusing on this year’s theme; ‘Whai Wāitanga, Taking Our Place’ and submit it to our Youth Week art competition. Prezzy card up for grabs! 
  • Alternatively, look for ways to share your work online or at a community exhibition.

Give Back 🤝 

  • Volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about. 
  • Organise a beach or park clean-up, a fundraiser, or a clothing drive. 

Celebrate Culture and Identity 🌏 

  • Host or join a workshop, performance, or kai-sharing event that celebrates the many cultures of Aotearoa. 
  • Explore your own cultural roots, learn about the traditions of others, and create space for stories, language, and connection across communities.
