Ara Taiohi

My journey in Youth Development began in my own youth through activism, which informs my commitment to partnership with young people. Now, as a registered Child and Adolescent therapist, I bring over 20 years of experience in community development and social services. My areas of focus include sexual and family violence prevention and response, cross-cultural practice, LGBTQIA+ rights, youth development, and therapy. My practice is grounded in a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, intersectional social justice, and advocating for youth rights. It is also informed my own lived experience and I am part of the LGBTQIA+ community.   I have served in various capacities from frontline roles and youth mentoring to national leadership positions shaping strategies, policies, and advocacy. My background includes delivering prevention programs, conducting brief interventions, and providing long-term therapy. Having also been a team leader and manager, I am skilled in team supervision, training, and development.
