I have many decades of experience working with, and on behalf of tamariki, rangatahi and whanau. My supervisory practice, now my full-time focus, has developed through many years as a front line practitioner, supervisor, coach, facilitator and manager within government and community agencies at local and national level.
I have supervised managers and supervisors, statutory social workers in care and protection and youth justice, community social workers, youth development workers and whanau workers. For the past 20 years I have supervised in my private practice for several days each month, with the remainder of my time spent in child, young person and whanau centred roles.
For the past eight years I lead the work of the Children's Commissioner monitoring statutory residential and site based services for young people and making recommendations advocating for practice and systems change.
I am of Irish/English descent, married to Tau Huirama from Tainui and nana of eight mokopuna.
