Mana Taiohi Wānanga

Mana Taiohi is a principle-based framework that informs the way people who work with young people work in Aotearoa.

Where possible, our Mana Taiohi wānanga are delivered alongside rangatahi from the Rangatahi Regeneration kaupapa, who are learning the art of facilitation.

Training options

  • Full-Day: This full-day wānanga provides insight to understanding Mana Taiohi – the youth development principles of Aotearoa. Often known as the “Mana Taiohi experience”, this wānanga packs a punch by inviting participants to explore through interactive activities and thought-provoking korero to ignite, challenge and affirm their practice with young people, particularly in their context. Together we develop a deeper understanding of each kupu/principle and how to implement these into your personal and professional life.
  • Half-Day: A half-day wānanga provides an overview to learning about Mana Taiohi – the youth development principles of Aotearoa. This supercharged wānanga invites participants to collectively develop an understanding of the mana young people carry, and how positive youth development approaches can enhance their mana.
  • Online taster: We offer an online taster option. These are restricted to 2-hours and are condensed and adapted to online spaces. We do encourage people/groups to work towards wanting to do the half or full day wānanga/training in person to feel the experience and gain a deeper understanding.
  • Minimum number of participants: 20

Code of Ethics Training

The Code of Ethics provides an agreed set of guidelines for youth work in Aotearoa to ensure that youth work is carried out in a safe, skilled, ethical manner.

Training options

  • Full-Day: A full day training is foundational for understanding the Code of Ethics for Youth Work in Aotearoa and how it guides our practice in New Zealand.
    • The interactive and practical training has core topics that include:
      • The purpose of the Code of Ethics
      • The youth development framework and ethical implications
      • Exploration of common ethical scenarios using the Code as a reference point.
      • Additional topics that can be explored include health and safety, privacy/confidentiality, discrimination, professional association etc. We would highly recommend for people to complete a Mana Taiohi wānanga before doing a Code of Ethics training.
  • Half-Day: The half day training provides a high-level overview of the Code of Ethics with fewer opportunities for interactive and practical activities.
  • Online taster: We offer online taster options for both Code of Ethics and Mana Taiohi. Our online tasters are restricted to 2-hours and are condensed and adapted to online spaces. We do encourage people/groups to work towards wanting to do the half or full day wānanga/training in person to feel the experience and gain a deeper understanding.
  • Minimum number of participants: 20
